About Edith Schmidt
Edith Schmidt was born in Gauteng and matriculated from Hoërskool Sentraal, Bloemfontein. She has loved art from a young age. After she completed her studies in Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Visual Arts, University of Pretoria, she started teaching art to Grade 10 to 12 learners. She also did her BA and Higher Education Diploma at UNISA. She is a music teacher in piano, organ, clarinet, recorder, and keyboard, as well as she has her Teacher’s Licentiate in Music, UNISA.
She has done portraits of various globally established people, like P.W.Botha (1983), F.W. de Klerk and Hendrik Schoeman (1992), Head Monk of Buddhists, Taiwan (1994), as well as a Portrait of Mandela for the Swedish Embassy in 1995.
There is a number of her paintings in Gauteng Galleries. Art Collectors of Germany, the USA, and Brazil bought her paintings. She has exhibited her paintings across the world. See Exhibitions for more details and photos.
Edith enjoys sculpting. While she visited China with her husband who completed a bronze sculpture for Changchun she sculpted busts of Chinese people. They toured around the world to visit wonderful art venues in Beijing and Europe.
Highlights of her life are the exhibitions in London and New York. Edith has an entrepreneurial mindset as she has founded the Art Association in Rayton and Cullinan, South Africa. She still teaches art to adults and children on a weekly basis.
